Gujarati Khichdi
Gujarati Khichdi is a very simple recipe and is made in every gujarati family generation after generation,in my growing up years whenever i was not well or wanted to eat a very light meal at night have always loved to have this dish.It is not only very easy to make but very tasty as well with flavours of garlic,onion and ginger it is very good for stomach digestion.

- 1 cup Toovar Dal or Arhar Dal
- 1 cup Rice
- 2 cups Water
- 1 tsp Salt
- ½ tsp Tumeric Powder
For Tempering or Tadka
- 1 tbsp Ghee
- 1 tsp Cumin Seeds or Jeera
- 2 Cloves
- 1 inch Cinnamon Stick
- 6-7 Black Pepper Cones
- 2 pcs Green Chillies slit
- 1 Onion (sliced)
- 6-7 Garlic (thinly sliced)
- ½ inch Ginger (chopped)
Step 1
Take 1 cup toovar dal and 1 cup rice in a bowl washed it properly with water 4 to 5 times,now finally add 2 cups of water,add one teaspoon salt and add half teaspoon tumeric powder.Now pressure cook it 5-6 whistles.Once it cools down take out the plain khichdi in a bowl.
Step 2
Take a pan put it let it heat than add one table spoon full ghee,let it melt then add one tea spoon jeera,cloves,cinnamon stick,black pepper cones,sliced onions let it soften then add chopped ginger and thinly sliced garlic,finally add plain khichdi or your last night leftover khichdi let it cook on high flame for few seconds.Now serve it with plain curd and gujarati khichdi saag recipe link is given below.
