Jhal Muri

Jhal Muri is a popular street food of Kolkata , made of puffed rice and an assortment of spices, vegetables, chanachur and mustard oil.It is especially popular in Bangladesh and in the neighbouring West Bengal state of India.Food Fact-Mustard Oil has many health benefits being rich in MUFA, PUFA, Omega 3 & 6, Vitamin E, Minerals and anti-oxidants, Mustard oil demonstrates strong Anti-Microbial property and is Anti-inflammatory in nature. It improves heart health and reduces cancer risks.Most valuable health benefit of Mustard oil can be attributed to its strong stimulant property. It helps improves circulation, boosts metabolism, relieves sinus congestion and most importantly invigorates digestion.For daily consumption it is okay to take one teaspoon a meal.

Ingredients
  

  • 2 cup Puffed Rice
  • 1 medium Tomato (chopped)
  • 1 medium Boiled Potato (chopped)
  • 1 Onion (chopped)
  • 1 small Cucumber (chopped)
  • 1/2 cup Freshly Coriander (chopped)
  • 5 strands Fresh Coconut (chopped)
  • 1 tsp Freshly Ground Masala
  • 1 tsp Mustard Oil
  • ¼ tsp Red Chilli Powder
  • 1 tbsp Lemon Juice
  • 1 Roasted Peanuts (handful)
  • Papdi Gathiya or Chanachur Mixture (handful)
  • Plain Sev
  • Salt to Taste

For the Freshly Ground Masala

  • 2 tbsp Whole Cumin
  • 2 Bay leaf
  • 1 tbsp Coriander Seeds
  • 2 dry Red Chillies

Slightly roast on low flame, the above spices till dark brown turn off the heat and let it cool. Grind it to fine powder.

Instructions
 

Step 1

  • In a big bowl add potatoes, cucumber, onions, tomatoes, coriander, coconut, peanuts, papdi gathiya, and sev.

Step 2

  • Add the spices accordingly and at last add muri to it.Serve immediately.
